Aloha Everyone,
Interesting to note that some local visitor organizations are competing with Princess organized tours. J.J. was approached by a local tour guide who was offering 2 hours bus tour of the area.I walked up and down this tiny town for nearly an hour before the two of us boarded a regular size tourist bus. We were about the last few people to get on. All of the window seats were occupied. The man who sat next to J.J. and the woman who was seated next to me were busy filming expensive homes in town.
We had an excellent guide/ bus driver who gave a running commentary about the land its people.
I knew that Kiwi was originally from China. A Chinese syndicate cultivated golden colored Kiwi and controls 85% of its exports. I was able to get a glimpse of the Kiwi vines which are now being planted by the local farmers.
At 60 NZ$ per person, this was a good way to get a feel of the island. No Hobbiton (Lord of the Rings) and I understand that they are already accepting reservations for next year.
Aloha -- Cathi
