Honu’s engine is designed to use #2 diesel. In California with additional environmental regulations, only a few gas stations sell Diesel 2. Frustrating thing is that J.J. pulls into a gas station which advertises #2 diesel but, on the pump, there is a sticker it says B20.
Further research indicates that the supply crunch is due to Russian Invasion of Ukraine, which led to energy crisis in Europe and other parts of the world. In the USA, there have been closures or repurposing of several refineries, issues of maintenance and increased demands.
It took us additional 30 minutes to finally find a gas station with unadulterated Diesel 2. For now, we should have sufficient diesel in Honu to take us back to Torrance when we depart in 2 weeks.
