Today’s featured story on our daily bulletin, CURRENT is on The Pacific Ocean. “Pacific” means peaceful, the term given by Ferdinand Magellan during his world circumnavigation in 1521, translated from Tepre Pacificum, in Latin.Today as Regatta was buffeted from both sides and rode waves, we were impressed with the immensity and power of the ocean. The Pacific is the largest of Earth’s oceans. Extending from the Arctic in the north to the Southern Ocean in the south, the Pacific Ocean extends to Asia and Australia in the west and the North, Central and South America in the East. Covering approximately 46% of the Earth’s water surface, it provides an important source for water, energy, food, transportation, as well as livelihoods for numerous peoples who reside along the water’s edge.
