Tourists from Russia used to be around 4.7 million per year holding the number 1 spot. The Germans are second followed by Ukrainians. The numbers of course have changed with Russia invading Ukraine.
Turkey is in the crossroads of Asia and Europe and scanning faces of masses, it is difficult to tell where they have originated.
Based on 2021 available data, top 10 countries with most populous Muslims are Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt, Iran then Turkey. Many visit Turkey while on pilgrimage to Mecca.
I understand that pre-COVID days, Japanese tourists flocked to Turkey to enjoy its rich history and culture. Today, the Japanese are staying home and we only saw a scattering of Korean and Chinese visitors.
