When a cruise ship is in port, the Old Town of Rhodes comes alive with visitors. These are difficult times and shop keepers, restaurant owners are practical people. Apparently they all check and know when and which cruise ships will be arriving. American tourists are known for spending their money on souvenirs. Never mind lunches. Some bring packed food from the ship. As soon as their Greek tour guide shows them the way, off they go in search of things to take home.
Within a matter of 20 minutes, some returned to the restaurant to leave their initial purchases with the tour guide and to look for more items.
Usual cruise ships are scheduled to dock at 8:00 am. The passengers have to be back on board no later than 5:00 pm or an hour before their 6:00 pm departure time.
If visitors are ambitious, they can spend the day visiting the Medieval Town including the Palace of the Grand Master, Street of the Knights, the Kolona Tower by foot. Or they could go by excursion bus to Lindos Town and beaches.
