Comfortably Settled in Cuenca

Aloha Everyone,

There is always a bit of apprehension when you check into a new hotel. Victor opened the main door, took our suitcases and cordially invited us to the lobby of this heritage building. This upscale boutique hotel has 12 guest rooms all located on the second floor. Well-polished real wood floor boards squeak whenever we walk on it.

Our room, billed as a Junior Suite has a double bed plus a single bed. We also have large windows on both sides with different inner courtyard views. A living room with piano for guests’ usage is located directly across from our room. I took the views of the narrow street from this living room.

We met Pam, an American retiree from Texas. She moved to Ecuador almost 5 years ago. Pam obtained Ecuadorian residency and absolutely loves it here. Pam mentioned that first 3+ years, she lived in a place called BaƱos. Then about 18 months ago, she moved to Cuenca where she and her family rent a large house. She is one of the several Americans J.J. and I’ve met who prefer a more relaxing, laid-back and less costly lifestyle in South America.

Aloha -- Cathi
