Valladolid Wonderful Snack at Plaza Val, Public Market

Aloha Everyone,

Following the local tradition, the two of us had breakfast at 10:30 am. Plaza Val, the public market, sells fresh seafood, meat, poultry, cheese and olives all located in an extremely clean and brightly lit air-conditioned building.

There were a few bread and fruit shops, but what attracted J.J. and me was a tiny cafe with a L-shaped counter. It had 7 bar stools. The two of us sat down and ordered 4 canapés. I took the first bite of each and passed the rest to J.J.. We agreed they were one of the best we have eaten. J.J. ordered an additional canapé and we shared a pastry. Over a cup of café con leche (coffee with milk) we watched two brothers prepare, serve, clean their tiny restaurant. Our total bill was 8.40€ ($9.41). It was satisfying and filling that we did not have our lunch/dinner until 6:00 pm.

Valladolid is located in northwest Spain. The city, once the capital of Castillo, is known for its numerous medieval religious sites. The Royal Palace was the home of Spanish kings in the early 1600’s. There is a statue of Christopher Columbus and a museum that chronicles the life of the Italian explorer. The connection is he died in Valladolid in 1506.
