Aloha Everyone,
Siderias, restaurants or cafes where one can order food and have a glass of the local cider are located within a 10 minutes walk from our apartment.
The main attraction is the act of pouring cider. The traditional Asturian way is the the waiter holds the bottle high above his head with one hand and the glass in his other hand near his knees.
The reason that cider is poured this way is to create a foamy layer as well as to release the aroma in the cider. I suppose it helps if the person pouring the cider is tall as many Asturians are. Once the cider is poured, the glass should be emptied, unless you are drinking with a group in which case, you leave a small amount in the glass, clean where your lips touched the glass then pass it onto the next person. It’s something like the Japanese tea ceremony.
