Aloha Everyone,
They are one of our favorite snack in Spain. The aroma of this seasonal treat is irresistible. Today, the two of us spotted a kiosk selling castañas. We paid €2 each and found a nearby bench to enjoy it.
A trumpet player stood nearby entertaining pedestrians with a medley of musical selections. Starting with Ave Maria, he covered a wide range of genres including bullfighting music to Somewhere my Love, the theme song from a classic movie, Doctor Zhivago.
J.J. and I found a small, unassuming gastronomic restaurant. J.J. enjoyed a 3 course daily special starting with Spaghetti ala Carbonara, followed by salmon with potatoes and flan for dessert.
Having just consumed 5 - 7 castañas, I was not ready for a full meal. Our waiter looked baffled with my order of green lettuce salad with no other veggies. I asked for olive oil for my dressing. A Spanish salad usually includes greens, tomatoes, onions and carrots.
