Aloha Everyone,
Fugitive colors are also known as temporary colors. When exposed to the elements, especially sunlight, the color can change, lighten or even disappear. In dry desert environments, temperature, heat and pollution can also affect colors. Among fugitive colors, hues of red in particular are most prone to fading.
J.J. and I both have art backgrounds. So when we noticed the fading billboards on Arizona highways, we wondered whether photographers or art directors were unaware of the use of fugitive colors.
Sunrise and sunset are impermanent. However reproducing them in paintings or photos, one should be aware of fugitive colors.
