Stopped by for half an hour visit at Cousin Ricky in Phoenix. He loves milk chocolates so we gave him early Easter themed chocolates.
Chicago Gyro is an unassuming take-out place though you could dine in as well. We each purchased Gyro in pita plus a Baklava to share. I ate mine with salad greens from our refrigerator, but I could only finish 1/3 of my sandwich. We paid $7.25 each for Gyro and $3.25 for Baklava. It was very reasonable for such excellent quality food. By the way, for Baklava lovers, it was absolutely heavenly.
A 15 minutes stop at a rest stop to stretch our legs. With poisonous snakes and insect warning signs posted everywhere, it was more tense than relaxing.
We also saw some excellent examples of palo verde trees whose trunks or rather the barks were green or turning green. At the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, it was explained that the green color comes from chlorophyll. Compared to other trees, palo verde trees get a lots of photosynthesizing through its bark. Spanish words “Palo Verde” translate “Green Stick” in English.
Approximately 260 miles of driving to Flagstaff. Snow dusted peaks and pine trees at KOA Flagstaff is a wonderful change from the desert heat of Tucson.
The high elevation, nearly 7,000 feet, means it will be a cold night.
