Museo Arte Popular (Popular Art Museum)

Aloha Everyone,

Museo Arte Popular serves to promote and preserve culturally rich Mexican handicrafts and folk art. The museum is located across the street from our condo. This morning, the two of us stopped by for a few minutes before lunch. I do have weakness for museums especially when they are related to art. The exhibits are divided on 4 floors and the guide direct us to start from the top. Extensive displays are difficult to walk by and by the time we finished on the ground floor, it was way past our lunch hour.

Alebrije displays (fantastical mystical creatures) are so impressive and entertaining. The museum sponsors the yearly, Noche de Alebrijes (Night of the Alebrijes) parade that start from Zocalo (the Main Plaza) and to the Angel of Independencia Monument. It must be an amazing event to witness in person. I saw photos of many spectators dressed as Alebrije. J.J. and I would love to schedule a return visit to coincide with the Noche de Alebrijes.
