Puerta Alameda & Chedraui

Aloha Everyone,

“Live like a local” is what J.J. and I are trying to experience when we decided to stay at the Puerta Alameda condominium. Yesterday we were met by Fanny, a representative of the AirBnB owner. She was friendly, pleasant but spoke no English. Her instructions came at the speed of a bullet train requiring our full attention. Bravo that J.J. and I got a gist of her monologue!

Our one bedroom, one bathroom apartment is clean, modern and has a courtyard view allowing the sunlight to enter. Small but functional kitchen is standard, but a nice bonus is the laundry room with a very large washer/
dryer combination. Fanny told us that its washing cycle is quick. However, the drying cycle would take 3 hours! We started our wash at 5:00 o’clock this morning and it ended at nearly 9:00 am.

The second item on our agenda was to look for Chedraui, a large supermarket. We followed screen shots of the walking directions. We also asked 6 different people including a taxi driver who offered to take us (only 4 minutes by taxi) and a policeman who was most helpful giving us the number of signal lights to pass.

Our new domicile is half a block away from the Alameda Central, the oldest park in the Americas. Absolutely interesting and entertaining areas for walking. We walked by the Hemiciclo a Juárez, Palacio de Bellas Artes, several smaller museums, all individually requiring separate visitation and a blog devoted to each.

Walking into Chedraui J.J. and I both laughed out loud. Here is a gigantic department store/supermarket and bakery all rolled into one. We can find everything we need. The distance from our apartment is .8 mile, estimated to take 9 minutes one way. After our meandering and walking every aisle in the supermarket, we logged 2.6 miles.

Poor J.J. is taking a long nap after he carried back 2/3 of the weight of the items we purchased. He figures that we will be going to Chedraui every 3-4 days. At least our purchases will then be moderated.

Aloha -- Cathi
