A Day in the Life in the Mexico City

Aloha Everyone,

Today was a rather typical day in the Mexico City. I love Mexican papayas though J.J. finds them too aromatic compared to Hawaiian. After our breakfast, we made our 2nd provision purchase trip to Chedraui, a supermarket.

I recall a comment made by a good friend who said, “One can tell the prosperity of a country by how they dispose household garbage.” We witnessed a garbage collection truck where at least 5 men were working. It was astonishing to see them sorting recyclable items before they hauled them away.

According to InterNations, an organization for Chinese in Mexico City, there are about 10,000 Chinese with pure blood in Baja California also known as Mexicali in Mexico. This area is immediately across the border from Calexico in California. Mainland Chinese are prosperous with a lots of disposable income under the current communist  system that injects a dose of capitalism. The two of us encounter Chinese tourists seeking to purchase luxury goods wherever we go. On our walk this morning, we traversed the area which advertises itself as “Chinatown.” J.J. was poised for a good dim sum lunch, but restaurants looked old and unappealing.

Palacio de Las Flores maybe just a flower market. Definitely has curve appeal and it’s only a few blocks from our apartment. We were already carrying a combined 40 plus pounds (mostly J.J.) when I took a photo and made a mental note to return.

La PanaderĂa, the bread shop where we purchase our breakfast croissants, is located just behind our condo. OXXO, a convenience store is where we stack up on our drinking water (2 bottles of 1 liter).  It is merely 1/2 block from La PanaderĂa.

Aloha -- Cathi
