Aloha Everyone,
There is no resemblance between Las Vegas, New Mexico and its famous namesake, Las Vegas, Nevada. There are no high rise luxury hotels and gambling casinos, no glittering neon signs. The main street wears quaint shades of a rural community.
Elevation of 6,424 ft with pine forested mountains reminds us of Flagstaff, AZ. Population of Las Vegas, New Mexico is reported to be declining with an estimated 13,000. Las Vegas, Nevada’s rapidly growing population is estimated near 700,000 for 2018.
J.J. and I stopped for lunch at a small restaurant. There was little curve appeal and the Mexican food served was nothing to write about. The main attraction for us was an ability to fit Honu in one of their parking stalls.
Tonight we are staying at Raton, just south of Raton Pass on the Colorado-New Mexico border. We were amazed to find a KOA campground in a small community. Unfortunately, their WiFi was not working. We watched a movie.
