Aloha Everyone,
There are 23 Indian tribes in New Mexico including nineteen Pueblos, three Apaches and the Navajo Nation.
Each Tribe is a sovereign nation with its own government, traditions, and culture. Visitors are welcome on most days with the exception of some religious and cultural events that are closed to outsiders.
While driving from Flagstaff to Albuquerque, we noticed several large structures in the middle of nowhere advertising Indian Casinos and restaurants. Research indicated that there are 21 Indian casinos and 6 other Indian gaming facilities in New Mexico located across 10 counties. These facilities are owned by 14 tribes. Furthermore, American Indians make up more than 10 percent of New Mexico’s population.
