Lake Quinault Environs

Aloha Everyone,

There are 4 rain forests, Hoh, Quinault, Queets and Bogchiel, all located on the west side of the Olympic National Park. The main characteristics of temperate rain forests is that they get between 12 to 14 feet of rain per annum. Yes, feet.

Trying to identify moss, ferns, Douglas fir, red alders, Western hemlocks and Sitka spruce was fun and educational.

We also learned about nurse logs. They are the remnants of downed trees. Nurse logs provides places for seeds to grow. These logs are also homes for insects and and other living creatures.

Our neighbors at the RV park were a family of five. The senior couple are from Oregon and their daughter and son-in-law and a grandson are from North Carolina. J.J. and Esteve’s (originally from Barcelona) conversation about Barcelona’s bid for independence was cut short by the sudden rain.
