Forks, WA

Aloha Everyone,

Forks is the first large enough city to stop for lunch if you are headed north on 101 from Hoh Rain Forest of the Olympic National Park to Port Angeles.

Lee at the Chamber of Commerce welcomed me into her highly decorated office, handing me brochures and ready to offer information about the town. The main attraction of Forks is “Twilight” displayed behind Lee via large posters. This is the town where author Stephenie Meyer based her Twilight saga novels. Publicized as the rainiest town in the contiguous United States, the local tourism brochure invites visitors to: “...like Bella did, explore the rain forest and beaches and just maybe, catch a glimpse of a vampire or werewolf.” Independent Twilight tours are available at twilight hours.

Forks is a charming town where everyone we’ve met seem happy, cheerful and truly glad to be living here. For the past two days, J.J. and I ate our lunch at “The In Place” located in the center of town on Highway 101. I ordered my dry hamburger with nothing on it, served with steaming clam chowder. Excellent “home cooked” meal for the two of us. Inclusive of tip, it was $21. We might make another return visit on our way back from Lake Quinault.

Aloha -- Cathi
