Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum

Aloha Everyone,

Within a short walking distance from our hotel is an area known as Madrid's "Golden Triangle of Art," which includes Prado Museum, the Reina Sofia and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. Today J.J. and I visited the latter.

The collection was started in the 1920s as a private collection by Heinrich, Baron Thyssen-Bornemisza de Kászon. Reading the family’s biography is like a melodrama about a wealthy family who acquired the collections of American millionaires coping with the Great Depression and inheritance taxes.

With over 1,600 paintings, it was once the second largest private collection in the world after the British Royal Collection. Our self-guided tour covered seven centuries of paintings. The vast collection lacks a focal theme. Multifarious and eclectic, the collection range from Italian Primitive, 15th century German, Spanish and Italian, 16th - 20th century European and North-American.

Here is one that I missed. Lautrec-Picasso Temporary Exhibit which definitely is more to my genre.
