Fundació Joan Miró (Joan Miró Museum)

Aloha Everyone,

This museum is dedicated to one of the greatest Spanish artists, Joan Miró. The layout of the Fundació Miró was created by Joan Miró himself with the idea of making art accessible to everyone.

Internationally known for his paintings, sculptures, murals and ceramics, the museum has the most comprehensive collection of his work. Per the catalog, there are 217 paintings, 178 sculptures, 9 textiles, 4 ceramics, some 8,000 drawings, and almost all his prints. Located on Montjuïc Hills overlooking Barcelona port, it is a perfect venue for Joan Miró, the Barcelona born artist.

I had read of Miró’s fascination with the spirituality of Zen. A series of work, with clear influence of Zen, were compelling  and captivating. J.J. and I spent a good part of the day at the museum. Miró is one of my favorite artists and it was mind-boggling to be in room after room surrounded by his artwork.

“A simple line painted with the brush can lead to freedom and happiness." - Joan Miró

The two of us were invited for dinner by a long-time family friend. Actually his parents, Richard & Terttu, are one of our dearest and oldest friends going back nearly 45 years. Dean is on a sabbatical from the University of Michigan. We had a delightful evening with Dean and his wife, Sharon and their young daughter and son.
