Ronda Old Town

Aloha Everyone,

There is a big contrast between the newer section of Ronda and the Old Moorish area. Except for the new bridge, a major attraction, the older area appears void of tourists. One possible reason is the main thoroughfare is narrow. Cars and trucks race up and down. There is a narrow section for pedestrians less than three feet wide. You need to hug the wall every time vehicles pass.

Plaza Duquesa de Parcent is one of Ronda’s most picturesque squares. The Santa Maria del Mayor church is a mixture of gothic and renaissance styles. This massive, impressive church took over 200 years to build.

Plaza del Socorro, the square in front of the Almocabar Gate and around Calle Nuevo, is our favorite square. It is literally just a few step from the entrance to our apartment building.

The parish church of Socorro (Parroquia de Nuestra SeƱora del Socorro) was built in 1956. The main door is a great place to people watch as it is a popular place for pedestrians of all ages. There are 7 restaurants located on the plaza including two Italian. J.J. and I have tried all of them either for light snack, lunch or dinner.

Aloha -- Cathi
