Estació del Nord Valencia (The North Station) is one of the images J.J. and I had carried in our heads from 43 years ago. And there it was, the elegant art nouveau building opened in 1917. It is still the main train station with all in its original splendor.
The Plaza de Toros de Valencia (The bullring) is adjacent to the train station. Nearby is the City Hall plus an extensive collection of classical buildings.
Our hotel has a specialty restaurant serving Valencia cuisine on its ground floor. There are tables on the street in front of the establishment. It’s a pedestrians only thorough fare.
J.J. and I were the first guests to be seated at 8:00 pm.
Paella, the famous dish of Spain was originated from this 3rd largest city in the country. It takes 45 minutes to prepare. In the meantime, we enjoyed an antipasto of olives and vegetables; anchovies with quail egg and cherry tomato; and cod stuffed croquettes. Dessert was a leche flan (custard).
Our leisurely dinner required 1 1/2 hour. It was very Spanish and thoroughly enjoyable. By the time we left, the restaurant was starting to fill with diners. In Spain, dinner is usually between 10:00 pm and 2:00 am.
