Aloha Everyone,
Things move at a more leisurely pace in Cuenca. Here siesta hours are taken seriously. Museums and shops typically close between 2-4 pm. Dinners are not served until 8:00 pm though restaurants will serve you drinks and snacks to tidy you over.
Just to give you a better glimpse of our residence for a week, the following 5 photos were taken on the street where we live - all within a city block.
Before dinner, the two of us ventured a little farther to visit the Cuenca Archeological museum. The displays were excavated from nearby Roman ruins.
Warm rose hued colors of dusk lit the evening sky.
It was a romantic setting for a couple. Accompanied by a videographer and friends, they danced to the center of the bridge which connects to the Parador of Cuenca. There he got down on his knee and proposed. J.J. and I stayed behind with a band of musicians who played light pieces until the couple returned to dance and basked in everyone’s congratulatory greetings. This unexpected rural proposal scene was reminiscent of the wedding scene in Sicily in the movie, The Godfather.
Our apartment has a newer laundry machine. Until J.J. figured out the nuance of its usage, the machine washed our first load 4 times over 5 hours, giving us sparkling clean clothes.
