Driving On Highway 52 in Iowa

Aloha Everyone,

Our decision was to take US Highway 52 which runs parallel to the Mississippi River. The route is designated as a State Scenic Byway. Honu covered about 100 miles out of 166 mile-long US 52 passing charming riverside towns such as Le Claire, Clinton, Elk River, Belleview, Tete des Morts and Dubuque.

Unique geographical fact about Iowa is that it is the only state whose east and west borders are formed by two major rivers: Mississippi and Missouri.

In 2013, Dubuque's population was 58,253. It is the tenth-largest city in Iowa. It is also the oldest city in Iowa tracing its history of European settlers back 200 years. Many residents of Dubuque today descended from German and Irish immigrants. The city is rich in history and culture and deserves a return visit.

Following a "Camping" signage posted by Iowa Department of Highway, J.J. and I found Tristate Raceway & RV Park off US Highway 20 in Earlville. We chose a very long, shaded site for Honu with beautiful views of a pond and a raceway at a distance.

This is still off-season and the rates are reasonable. We are paying $30 for full-hook up. Secured compound with a lots of walking trails within sight of Honu. I enjoyed my brisk half an hour walk while J.J. was using free WiFi.

Aloha -- Cathi
