Unintended Tour of the Nation's Capitol

Aloha Everyone,

J.J. allocated 3 hours one way drive to pick our son in Maryland.

Heavy traffic and inadvertently missing two turn offs delayed us by an additional hour. J.J. decided to get back on the road after just a brief rest. He wanted to avoid the D.C. Friday afternoon rush hour.

SIRI misinterpreted our verbal Instruction to take I-66 to mean that we wanted the most direct route to get back to Virginia. Yes, that meant driving through the nation's Capitol. While I felt bad that J.J. had to deal with the D.C. traffic, the unexpected treat of seeing the Capitol, then the Washington and Lincoln Memorials, the Pentagon and Arlington Cemetery from the windows of Honu was wonderful. Our son mused that just a day ago his daughter went to Sacramento to visit the state Capitol with her class. They will have a lot to discuss and make some comparisons when he returns home in a week.

Excellent dinner at Southern Kitchen Restaurant in New Market. Our son and I enjoyed the Friday night special of grilled salmon with broccoli while J.J. enjoyed his baby back ribs.

Aloha -- Cathi
