Kentucky Bluegrass Country to West Virginia

Aloha Everyone,

The name "'Kentucky" is of Native American origin credited to several different languages. I love the Iroquois meaning which translates, "land of tomorrow."

Kentucky is known for Thoroughbred race horses, bourbon distilleries, car manufacturing, tobacco, coal and Kentucky Fried Chicken, also known as KFC.

Our drive this morning took us through the Bluegrass region located at the northern part of the state. Bluegrass do not have blue leaves but refers to blue-flowered grass that covers meadows. It is a romantic and aesthetically beautiful area with rolling hills after rolling hills.

We stopped at Reno Roadhouse in Morehead, a small city with a population of less than 7,000. Their specialties include steak, ribs and chicken. J.J. ordered baby back ribs while I had a small sirloin with a large side of stirred fried broccoli. Overall excellent meal though the honey dripped home-made buns were too sweet and sticky.

From Greg at the West Virginia visitor information center in Huntington, I learned that all 49 state parks in West Virginia are free for day time users. Some parks have overnight camping facilities. Very tempting but since we would like to have phone signal and WiFi, tonight our accommodation is Huntington KOA.

Aloha -- Cathi
