Tucumcari, New Mexico

Aloha Everyone,

The main challenge for my trying to maintain a healthy diet is what I can eat in restaurants. No bread, no pasta, no rice or potatoes and other starchy food. Counting my carb is challenging and at the same time an excellent mental exercise. I also don't eat pork and chicken.

Our lunch stop at Silver Moon American Mexican Restaurant in Santa Rosa gave me a chance to practice my resolve. J.J. chose hamburger with all the trimmings. I ordered grilled turkey breast with pepper and avocado. I removed 3/4 of the pumpernickel bread, and left the fries untouched. It was a good lunch!
Tucumcari, New Mexico is 107 miles West of Amarillo, Texas. It is a town with fewer than 6,000 residents. The twin began as a railroad construction camp in 1901. The camp was once known as Six Shooter Siding because of numerous gunfights. It was renamed Tucumcari in 1908 after the Tucumcari Mountain.

Residents are proud of two museums located in their historical downtown: Tucumcari Historical Museum and Mesalands Dinosaur Museum. J.J. and I were happy to find Lowe's, a large supermarket where we purchased some fresh fruits and vegetables.

Aloha -- Cathi
