Old Tunnel State Park & Pedernales Falls State Park

Aloha Everyone,

Old Tunnel is the smallest state park in Texas. The entire park is a little over 16 acres. Its name derives from once being a functioning railroad tunnel. The narrow and loose gravel road leading down to the area where you can see the tunnel was slippery. I lost my footing and slid down about 2 feet, landing on my buttocks. Immediate yoga exercises mitigated any stiffness or soreness. J.J. congratulated me for falling correctly. No broken bones. No sprains.

The tunnel is home to 3 million bats who were wintering farther South. They return in the spring.

Texas Parks & Wildlife issues permits to hunters periodically to maintain animal population at an optimal level. When that happens, they shut down the park. Unknown to us, Perdanales Fall State Park was closed except for hunters with permits.

Diane took us to Johnson City named after the grandparents of LBJ where again, J.J. and I were shown the earlier home of the former President.

After parting company with Diane, J.J. washed Honu at a self-service car wash.

I walked over to HEB Supermarket to purchase large, juicy, plump peaches from Chile.

Aloha -- Cathi
