From Port O'Connor to Goliad State Park

Aloha Everyone,

A town, city, state and even country can be classified into our "special place" category. Most of the time it is because of the people we know and wonderful experiences J.J. and I had with them.

Port O'Connor, a small unincorporated community in Calhoun County in Texas is one such places and it is because of Jim and Susan.

There is nothing outstanding about its coastline. There are more picturesque places between Corpus Christi and Galveston. POC (locals' name for Port O'Connor) has a permanent population of about 2,000 which increases during the fishing season.

To get their mails, Jim and Susan have to go to the city's post office. No home delivery. They jokingly referred to the largest gas station with a convenience store as the "POC Mall". Jim and Susan's lives are uncluttered and they value family, friends and good fishing weather! Susan wanted to keep J.J. as he had whipped up a couple of his sumptuous dishes. With promises of a next visit, we bid them farewell.

My special thanks to Jim for inviting me to practice Zumba with him. After 3 consecutive days, the Zumba music has fixed in my brain. I will incorporate some of the Zumba warm-up steps into my daily practice as they are excellent cardiovascular exercise to get my heart rate going.

Goliad State Park will be Honu's home for the next two days. We secured a great site where we can access the Texas State Park's free WiFi.

Aloha -- Cathi
