Back On The Open Road

Aloha Everyone,

J.J. and I left my Mother's house at 9:00 am, but it took us nearly two hours to navigate through heavy Los Angeles freeway traffic before finally it was open road.

It has been exactly 9 weeks since our last road trip in Honu.  As the traffic abated and the two of us began to see the stark, familiar, beautiful desert landscape, we did a big "High 5" and felt our tension begin to leave us.

Our lunch stop at the Mad Greek Cafe in Primm turned out to be a far better choice than their original location in Barstow. This site is newer, cleaner with a less cluttered menu focusing on Greek dishes rather than commingling with Mexican dishes.

J.J.'s fried calamari platter was excellent. My spanakopita was fried and dry. I think the frozen spanakopita sold at Costco is far better and more authentic.

Ability to be flexible with our destination is one of the pleasures and advantages of traveling in Honu. Tonight, instead of Laughlin, we decided to spend a night at Las Vegas KOA. There were no worthwhile movies at the Sam's Town Cineplex. Instead, we enjoyed the 1968 production of Romeo & Juliet, directed by Franco Zeffirelli. This film is significant to J.J. and me for two sentimental reasons: the important balcony scene was filmed at our friend's home in Artena and this was the first movie we saw together!

Aloha -- Cathi
