Aloha Everyone,
Very, very happy to be back in Rome. Our plane arrived on time, safe and sound with our luggages in tact. The excitement of touching the ground of the Eternal City has nearly washed away our travel fatigue.
Took a bus to Termini, Rome's main train station. From there, J.J. and I cheerfully endured the roundabout walking directions given by kind strangers. After close to an hour, we finally found our home for the first two nights, Hotel Stromboli. It is across the street from Termini, but that depends on which station exit you take.
The two of went out for about an hour before we settled for dinner at Andrea. What else would we have on our first night in Rome? Spaghetti alla Carbonara and Pizza Fungi. The portions were large. J.J. and I shared the pasta and stood up from the table with 1/3 of the pizza unfinished.
Kristy & Dennis had just sat down at one of the inside tables. Their 4 weeks Italian holiday also began today. After 3 nights, the couple leave for Croatia to join a one-week cruise designed for about 40 passengers. For the remainder of their trip, they plan to crisscross Italy. Like us, they have ties to California, but currently reside in Uruguay. We immediately felt kinship and had lots of questions about their lifestyle and Uruguay. Kristy and I reluctantly parted with hugs and expressing hope to run into each other somewhere in Italy.
Aloha -- Cathi
