This national park setting is in one of the remote areas of the country. However a visit here is well worth the time you spend to get here. Over 79,400 acres of North Dakotas Badlands offer diverse and stunning sceneries and wildlife adventures.
Established in 1947, Theodore Roosevelt National Park serves as a national memorial park to honor the president who is remembered for his love of land and wildlife.
During his presidency between 1901-09, Theodore Roosevelt established the US Forest Service and signed the 1906 Antiquities Act proclaiming 18 national monuments. Working with Congress, he also created five national parks, 150 national forest, and dozens of federal reserves.
The park is divided into 3 units: South, North and Elkhorn Ranch. We are very fortunate to find one of the few fist come /first serve sites in the Cottonwood Camping Ground located in the South Unit 50% reservable units are also all taken. The very friendly Ranger Jim who checked us in.
Pictures are worth one thousand words including very close encounter with a herd of Bisons who decided to check out our campground.
I am adhering to a vegetarian diet after coming so close to bisons.
