Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument

Aloha Everyone,

In high school American History class , we all learned about Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer and his ill fated troops' last stand at the battle of Little Bighorn. The site is now a national monument and today it is referred to as "Hallow Ground". Displays and film presentations remember the Plains Indians and the United States military who were involved in this historic and horrific battle.

J.J. and I joined about 50 other visitors to listen to the oral interpretation of the battle. Custer and Crazy Horse were both 37 years old and the two men were fearless leaders. Strangely, photos I took on the "sacred ground" caused my iPhone lens to fog. Maybe it was just dirt?

We met Helmut from Bavaria, Germany when I dropped of a letter to my Mother at the post office in downtown Hardin. He was waiting for his girlfriend who was also mailing letters.

They have been traveling on their motorcycles for nearly 5 1/2 years. He told us that they worked very hard and saved enough money to make this journey. "We find freelance jobs by taking videos, photographs and writing articles for a German audience" to prolong  their current lifestyle. It is always such a great pleasure to meet our kindred spirit who share our passion for travel.

Another typical Montana lunch at a grill in downtown Hardin before we started our drive back to Wyoming.

Cameron, originally from San Diego, CA moved to Sheridan, Wyoming. When I asked for some interesting stories and facts to share in my blog he gave me a handful of points of interest for us to explore. Thank you so much Cameron. I have my notes and will visit those areas on our next trip.

Today with strong wind and darkening sky, we felt prudent for us to arrive in Casper as soon as possible.

Aloha -- Cathi
