Aloha Everyone,
Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is located in southern Colorado in San Luis Valley. This is the last of the four national parks in Colorado for J.J. and me to visit. It is an unique and beautiful place. As you stand on the valley floor to soak your feet in Medano Peak stream, you can look towards the crest of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains rising 13,000 feet. Known for the tallest sand dunes in North America, some of them measure over 600 feet.
Depending on the weather, wavy surface of the sand created by rain and wind is abstract and beautiful.
Paolo and Valentina are from Bologna, Italy. This is their 4th trip to the United States. Paolo mentioned that while they love some cities, what they enjoy more is the American national parks. The four of us agreed that when you visit one national park, you want to see more. The experience wets your appetite and you continue to crave for more.
Ray and Jean from Kansas City, Missouri have a Hawaii connection. When Ray served in the US Army, for 2 years he was assigned at Fort Shafter. They are also considering purchasing an RV though they agree that Ray is too tall for a motorhome similar to Honu.
Tonight we are staying at the Piñon Flats Campground located inside the park with a view of the sand dunes and the mountains.
