Aloha Everyone,
Diane has been volunteering at the RMNP since early June. She loves the mountains and all they have to offer. Every morning, she wakes up and says to herself, "I can't believe that I am here." Quoting John Muir, Diane said, "The mountains are calling and I must go. And that is why I came."
This is summer time volunteer work. She enjoys working with other volunteers, meeting park visitors from all over the country and the world.
Being guests of a volunteer means we get a personal guide of the park. Diane also knows the areas where moose is likely to be seen. As a result, JJ and I had exciting close encounters twice in one morning!
Our stops included Holzwarth Historical Site where we toured a 1820s-era dude ranch. Sudden rain, lightening and thunder storm added excitement to our visit that included crossing a small wooden bridge over the Colorado River about 10 miles down from its source.
Diane treated us to lunch at a very popular restaurant located on the Main Street of Grand Lake. (More on Grand Lake in my upcoming blog.)
We are staying at former ranching community called Ganby. Centrally located between Grand Lake and Winter Park, the place is now a popular destination for vacationers as well as second homeowners.
There are three lakes nearby: Grand Lake, the largest natural body of water in Colorado, plus Lake Granby and Shadow Mountain Lake that are both man made. Ever changing colors of the mountains and lakes at different times of day and weather are truly breathtaking.
