Visiting Tai & Chie In San Jose

Aloha Everyone,

Tai is the eldest of three sons of Yasu and Mayumi with whom we have been friends for nearly 40 years. Tai works for a multi-national management consulting company in San Jose. He and his wife have a 5 years old son and a 3 years old daughter. They invited us to visit them at their home.

At the front door of their house, we were met by the foursome's enthusiastic welcome. It took but 10 minutes for the little girl to warm up to us. Once she felt comfortable, she pulled J.J. by hand and showed him their spacious backyard with flower and vegetable gardens and fruit trees.

While Tai grilled steaks and other food items, the children skated around in the backyard and I attempted to show the little boy how to shoot basketball :-/

Dishes prepared by Chie and Tai were beautiful to look at and sumptuous to taste.

Here is a Graffiti eggplant which Chie cooked as one of the dishes to compliment the main dishes of marinated and grilled steaks, smoked salmon, and stewed salmon in Hokkaido-style hot pot.

Tonight we are comfortably settled in Honu parked on their driveway.

Aloha -- Cathi
