Aloha Everyone,
Built in 1897, the Great Market Hall, aka Central Market Hall is acclaimed to be the most beautiful of all Budapest market halls. Compared to other large food markets J.J. and I have visited, we must say that this is one of the cleanest and most attractive.
We first went to explore the upper floor. There were numerous food stalls next to one another. Prepared home style meals and Hungarian snacks including Langos, made of fried dough with sour cream, vegetables and meats looked delicious.
J.J. and I opted for something safer and familiar and had a lunch in a restaurant located on the famous Vaci Street where prices are high but food quality is excellent.
Appetizer - string beans stirred fried in garlic and sea salt served with olives..
J.J.'s first course - mussels in light wine tomato sauce followed by a mushroom pasta prepared with white wine
My grilled salmon fillet and grilled vegetables.
After lunch we went back to the Great Market Hall. The produce are located on the ground level. I purchased pears, large avocado, red cabbage, leek and J.J. bought two types of salami and olives.
Our leisurely walk lasted 5 hours inclusive of lunch break. It was not tiring since we often stopped to gaze at statues, to take photos of beautiful buildings or simply enjoyed the spring-like weather.
Aloha -- Cathi
