Foods For Brain, Better Mood, & Longer, Healthier Life

Aloha Everyone

The May issue of AARP magazine has an article excerpt from "Eat This Not That!" This series was developed from the Men's Health magazine column written by David Zinczenko and Matt Goulding.

Some of interesting and easy to follow dietary guidelines include:

for lower blood sugar, choose salmon, tuna, halibut, black cod, sardines, anchovies and rainbow trouts over catfish or tilapia.

Choose olive oil over soybean oil.

For a better mood: choose spinach salad with cherry tomatoes over Kale salad with sliced beef-steak tomatoes (lately I've been consuming more kale than spinach so this is a revelation to me) and dark chocolate over process chocolate.

For a longer, healthier life, choose plant protein such as nuts, beans, tofu and grains. The article further explains that based on a study published in Journal Of Nutrition, "Those who ate the most plant protein had more strength in their thigh muscles  than those who ate the least." Stronger leg equals fall prevention!

By following their guideline does not mean that you starve or experience food deprivation. You will be following one of my Mother's favorite mantras, "Eat everything but in small quantities." Enjoy!
