Assisting My Mother With Her Volunteer Work

Aloha Everyone,

My Mother has been trying to reduce her volunteer commitments at nursing homes, assisted living and senior independent living facilities.

Watching my Mother greeting individual residents by name, holding their hands and singing with them is always a moving experience for me. By popular demand, the 30 minutes program extended to 60 minutes. My Mother left the assembly room with nearly 60 residents, mostly confined to wheel chairs. Their faces, some with tears in their eyes clearly showed my Mother how much they love her. I don't see how she could reduce her commitments.

I was not permitted to take any photos of the facility nor its residents and employees. So here are a couple of portable instruments I played along with my Mother's Shamisen (3 string Japanese musical instrument and Shakuhachi (bamboo flute) played by one of her students.

Tonight J.J. prepared salmon and I made a spring mixed salad with blueberries and chopped tofu.

Aloha -- Cathi
