Del Mar is known for the Del Mar Racetrack and Thoroughbred racing.
Annual racing season is from mid-July to early September. The RV park where we spent the past two nights is called "Surf & Turf". The park is located adjacent to the racetrack on land leased from the state.
Ms. C, the manager explained, "Every year, the RV park closes on May 31 because from June to the first two weeks of July this (RV park) is occupied by county fair vendors." "Then from the second week of July to the first week of September this is occupied by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. Then we open (RV park) again in mid-September."
During county fair and racing seasons, the site is reserved for storing vehicles that are used by vendors and to transport race horses .
The 3 1/2 months summer break is when Ms. C, takes her vacation. An enthusiastic and interesting individual, Ms C told me that she found this management job nearly 8 years ago by answering the ad in Craig's List. You can tell that she loves her work and enjoys meeting RV park guests like us.
We encountered Friday noon traffic but otherwise it was a smooth drive back to my Mother's home.
