Niban Japanese Cafe & Quality Time With Granddaughter

Aloha Everyone,

Today J.J. and I drove to Kearny Mesa to find a restaurant while our daughter-in-law went to her table tennis lesson.

Niban, in Japanese, means #2. Because we are used to seeing Iciban or #1 for restaurant and business names, I asked one of the servers why #2. Her response was that their first restaurant is called Iciban and this being the 2nd location, it is named Niban. Makes sense.

The menu is posted on the glass door facing the street. "Specials of the Day" have sample dishes. You place your order as you enter and pay the bill. Customers choose either an indoor or outdoor table to sit and wait for your food. A no frill restaurant, but good quality and the portions served were large.

J.J.'s lunch special:

My udon (hot noodle) which I shared with J.J.

Our total bill was less than $20.

On our way to pick up our granddaughter, we saw a man doing bicycle wheelies going uphill. Impressive as it requires strength and balance.

After an early dinner at home, we were treated to a flute practice session of our granddaughter.

She then had a soccer match with J.J. using a yoga ball. By the time she and I did meditation practice, our granddaughter was a tired little girl having physical and mental exercises to give her deep relaxation.

Aloha -- Cathi
