Northern Exposure - Roslyn, Washington

Aloha Everyone,

Some of you may remember the popular television show in the 1990's called Northern Exposure. The fictional town, Cecily, Alaska was filmed in Roslyn, WA, a small town with a population of about 900. It is located between Ellensburg and Snoqualmie Pass off I-90.

The last time J.J. and I visited Roslyn was mid-1995 when general store, radio station and other businesses in town were still kept as "live" sets. Nostalgic, I took photos of Roslyn as J.J. slowly circled the town for me.

Snoqualmie Pass on I-90 is 3,022 ft elevation. Even with no snow to adorn the mountains, this pass is majestic. It is one of my favorite mountain passes in the Western United States.

Our lunch stop was at Bau Tong, Thai Restaurant in Issaquah, a town where massive size new houses were being built. The place almost looked surreal in this rural community.

J.J. ordered the Pad Thai with beef

Smooth driving up to Mercer Island then the traffic came to a stand-still. It took us approximately 90 minutes to navigate the Seattle/Tacoma corridor. Changing direction towards Highway 101 was helpful. We left the congested I-90 behind and found ourselves in the little town of Elma, WA.

For our dessert, we feasted on Washington's famous Rainier Cherries, peaches and apricots we purchased this morning from a roadside fruits stand.

Here are Brandon and Jennifer happy to answer my questions about fresh fruits they were selling.

Aloha -- Cathi
