Astoria-Megler Bridge Over the Columbia River

Aloha Everyone,

Crossing the 4.1 miles long Astoria-Megler Bridge that spans the Columbia River was the highlight of our drive today. The border between Washington state and Oregon was indicated by a marker right in the middle of the bridge.

The last time we were in this part of the country was September when tourists were gone and the early autumn weather was beautiful. July to August is the height of the visitor season. Our first choice was Fort Stevens State Park in Astoria but they had no vacancy.

The Tillamook means "land of many waters" and this coastline has five major bays, five rivers and lighthouses.

Today was hot and muggy but a scenic coastal drive on I-101 that meanders through forests, fishing villages and farm lands was enjoyable.

Tonight we are safely settled at an RV park in Tillamook.

Aloha -- Cathi
