Chickasaw Cultural Center & Tornado

Aloha Everyone,

"Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain,
And the waivin' wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain"
-- State Song by Rodgers and Hammerstein

Virginia was at Aapica, the art gallery of the Chikasaw Cultural Center. Retired 4 years ago from her job, she began as a volunteer, but now seems to be an integral part of the Cultural Center. Virginia's mother is full Chickasaw.

It was a pleasure to speak with a person who cherishes her cultural heritage and is willing to share her knowledge. Virginia also pointed out to the photo of her younger brother who is prominently featured in the brochure. Likewise, her uncle, Adam Charles Walker, a Mater Artist of the Oklahoma State Council is in the Hall of Fame Honor Garden.

J.J. and I were unable to locate the famous fried pie store that was mentioned to me by Chris and Amanda of Holisso.

We will definitely return to Oklahoma to allow more time for us to get to know this beautiful state.

The excitement of the day occurred at about 5:50 pm when we were relaxing in Honu at a KOA RV Park. Severe storm tornado warning appeared on my iPhone screen. I noticed other RVers heading to the clubhouse. We were assured the chances of tornado going through our RV park is next to zero.

The camp host passed around delicious home-made almond clusters. Interesting social gathering due to the tornado warning. All is well.

Aloha -- Cathi
