Rainy Afternoon in Cuenca

Aloha Everyone,

Jim and his wife, Ruth are also students at our school. The are from Northern California. Jim and Ruth  are both retired from their jobs, but are active as full time ministers with Jehovah's Witnesses. They have relocated to Cuenca nearly three months ago with their school-age son. Our break is a wonderful opportunity to get to meet other Americans.

Cositas has a menu posted on the wall with photo illustration and prices of their dishes. We saw many people walking in.

The restaurant is catered to working class people as there were no linen table clothes and napkins on the tables and their forks and knives were brought out in a plastic tray with two small paper napkins. You pay at the counter. The cook puts your order of meat on the grill and they bring the plates to your table.

J.J. selected Costullitas Asadas and I chose the Super Picada.

The quality of food was okay. The cost of our meal with a bottle of water, service charge, taxes plus extra tip came out to $13.50.

The two of us shared the umbrella we had purchased earlier for $3.50 and walked back to our apartment under a gentle but steady rain.

Dano, the owner of this apartment has a good selection of DVDs for our enjoyment. J.J. and I watched Captain Phillips starring Tom Hanks and had Spaghetti alla Marinara which J.J. prepared. We completed our dinner with fresh naranja (orange) and chocolate for dessert.

Aloha -- Cathi
