Mountains in and around Phoenix have distinctive appearance. They are inviting and approachable. They stand low hugging the earth, full of charm and individual personality. If I was to write a children's book about mountains that come alive and able to sing and dance, these would be the perfect candidates.
Some of these interesting sandstone reliefs seem to be too low to be referred to as a mountain. So I did some search on what is the difference between a hill and a mountain?
A mountain, usually has an identifiable summit. In the United Kingdom, to be called a mountain, it must be over 1969 feet. However there is no definitive guideline. The title of mountain or hill is usually based on the custom and local tradition.
To see a humorous take on whether a relief is a mountain or a hill, watch the 1995 movie, "The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain" starring Hugh Grant.
