Grand Canyon National Park Revisited

Aloha Everyone,

Today J.J. and I re-entered the canyon via U.S. Route 89 South. We made a right turn at the small town of Cameron and drove (U.S. Route 64)  for 25 miles. On our earlier trip, the entry point to the South Rim was through Williams.

"In the Grand Canyon, Arizona has a natural wonder which is in kind absolutely unparalleled throughout the rest of the world. I want to ask you to keep this great wonder of nature as it now is. I hope you will not have a building of any kind, not a summer cottage, a hotel or anything else, to mar the wonderful grandeur, the sublimity, the great loneliness and beauty of the canyon. Leave it as it is. You cannot improve on it. The ages have been at work on it, and man can only mar it."
-- President Theodore Roosevelt

We met Steph and Judy from Oklahoma at the Little Colorado River lookout. When we ran into them again at the Desert View Watch Tower, it was a sign that they must be included in my daily blog.

From Page to Grand Canyon, there were beautiful scenes which I love to share with you starting with the red rocky hills along U.S. Route 89 South; multicolored sand-stones at Cameron Trading Post; and our photo stop at Little Colorado River.

Tonight we are staying at Mather Campground, the largest campground inside Grand Canyon N atonal Park.  There are 7 loops with names like Aspen, Fir, Juniper, Sage, and Pine. The sun is going down and I can feel the chill in the air. The temperature will drop tonight close to freezing. No electricity. Honu will rely on batteries for lights and heating. Our RV home comes with two large batteries. J.J. took the precaution of purchasing two additional. We also have a generator mounted on the engine to recharge the four batteries.

I feel so blessed to be able to spend a night within the Grand Canyon. This certainly is one of my favorite national parks.

"It is an incalculable added pleasure to any one's sum of happiness if he or she grows to know, even slightly and imperfectly, how to read and enjoy the wonder-book of nature."
--President Theodore Roosevelt
