Morro Bay to Bueltton, CA

Aloha Everyone,

Morro Rock towers at 576 ft over Morro Bay Harbor. In 1542, during the great voyage of discoveries, Juan Cabrillo named the rocky tower Morro Rock. One story says that the it was named for it's dome-like shape yet another says that it was called " the Moor " or the Muslim as the shaped resembled a turban worn by Moor referring to Moroccans.

The shape we see today is a result of the years of quarrying as a source of materials for breakwaters.

Today, Morro Rock is protected as a State Historical Landmark.

JJ and I had a meeting with someone who has been thinking about moving back to Hawaii. We had a wonderful time spending more than two hours talking at Starbucks.

California Fresh Market resembles a bit of Whole Foods. We purchased some breakfast provisions and marveled at the fresh produce section. I bought pears, nectarines and cucumbers to fill up one of our fruits baskets.

We made a late lunch stop at the famous Pea Soup Andersen in Buellton. The Andersen family has been in business for 90 years serving the wife's French split soup recipe. It is excellent but very heavy and filling.

I had their special of a bowl of split pea soup, heavy vanilla milk-shake served with home-made bread. I consumed 1/2 of soup, 1/3 of milk shake and one slice of bread and was more than satisfied.

Californian are enjoying the final week of summer holidays before children go back to school. We did not expect to find RV park after RV park full for the weekend. Flying Flags RV Park had no available full hook-up sites but they gave us an option to stay in their open field for 1/2 price. Basically we use our own electricity, own water like when we do "dry camping" in national forests. For the privilege of parking Honu in their field, we paid $35.84.

Laundry facilities as well as showers & toilets are open to all guests.

Guests may also use the pool but you have to wear a bright red wrist band which does not come off unless you cut it off with scissors. J.J. says that he feels like being admitted to a hospital.

One nice touch is welcome cookies we received as they checked us in.

Aloha -- Cathi
