California Highway 1

Aloha Everyone,

This morning we started on U.S. Route 101 South where we saw this quintessential American Red Barn selling antiques.

Our first and only main deviation for today's long drive was Cannery Row, the site of now-defunct sardine canning factories. The last cannery closed in 1973. Today it is one of the top tourist destinations in Central California. The waterfront street is full of boutiques, restaurants, hotels, inns and spas. I wonder what would John Steinbeck say if he was to see today's Cannery Row. It has no resemblance to the setting of his great novel.

On to California Highway 1. Selected as one of the 500 of the World's Most Spectacular Road trips. This was another breath holding, exhilarating road travel with twists and turning over cliff-hugging roads. From Monterey Pennisula to Big Sur, please enjoy our scenic unforgettable drive of approximately 125 miles.

Tonight, we are staying at the RV park located just across from Morro Bay. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Tognazzini's Dockside Restaurant. Our waiter, Robert was a very personable young man and he told us that he is working and studying to be a nurse. Robert gave us background information on Morro Rock. J.J. and I will go and take some photos tomorrow morning so I can write about it.

Aloha -- Cathi
