Sedona, Arizona

Aloha Everyone,

Located in the Coconino National Park, Sedona is known as the Red Rock Country. Spectacular red rock view will please visitors of any ages.

There are more than 300 miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails. And if one is looking for more challenge, there is rock climbing.

Driving on 179, Bell Rock can be viewed from the main highway.

Rock formations change colors and shaped quite drastically even just based on the time of the day and the angle.

As an attractive destination, it is inevitable that the place invites housing development, hotels and restaurants and shops for their tourism industry.

When J.J. and I first "discovered" Sedona, it was a peaceful artist colony with no large developments. We've made a number of return trips over 30 some years. The natural beauty of the red rock country is still impressive.

However today with Sunday plus Father's Day visitors, vehicular traffic and the number of pedestrians jammed the Main Street that reminded us of Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki.

J.J. particularly did not like the frequent "round about" that are supposed to alleviate traffic jam but instead confused many motorists who were unsure whether to yield or proceed.

Driving on I-79 to Hwy 69 on dry foothills of 4000 ft elevation, we arrived at Quail Ridge RV Park in Mayer, AZ. Only 4 years old, the facilities are modern and clean. The only downside is that the trees that are supposed to provide shades for our RVs are still too thin and too small.

I have been watching a turkey vulture circling in the afternoon sky.  It has a very large wingspan with white underwings. Apparently they reside in this part of the country only during the summer time. I read that they migrate south during winter.
